Filipino KunTao

KunTao is a warrior system that consists of a very direct approach to engaging in a conflict. This of course, makes KunTao an extremely practical and efficient fighting art for modern time self-defense use; with various open hand striking methods and low line kicks combined with tearing at soft targets along with nerve attacks and joint destruction. These are followed up with a variety of grabbing methods to a choice of take downs and off-balancing methods that make this martial art very unique. Filipino KunTao incorporates techniques that provide models of self-defense from common attacks including punches, grabs, chokes, pushes, kicks, take downs, weapons and multiple attackers.

Filipino KunTao is presented in a full curriculum with aspects of varying disciplines within the art.  Filipino KunTao's base curriculum is divided into the follow modules of learning:

  • Striking - (Stand-up, Ground, Close-Quarter)
  • Footwork & Angular Attacking Principles
  • Ground - (Positioning, Control, Striking, Escapes)
  • Conditioning - (Mind, Body, Heart)
  • Blocking & Controlling
  • Throwing & Falling
  • Hand to Hand Defenses
            --Grabs
            --Locks
            --Chokes
  • Unarmed versus Weapon Defenses
  • Weapon versus Weapon Defenses

Filipino KunTao has a non-formulaic approach to a martial defense system.  Filipino KunTao predicates itself on teaching fundamental principles and concepts to each practitioner.  As the practitioner progresses and learns the basic elements, philosophies, and application; he/she will develop techniques based on the system that best match their athleticism, height, weight, age, and mobility.  In the world today, movement is not predetermined, or scripted; so why should the martial arts?

When a martial "art", or self-defense system, does not follow a pattern-base, it becomes harder to grasp and requires regular practice.  It is also impossible to write a detailed curriculum for Filipino KunTao and present it in any media.  With the slightest of variables, techniques might actually change even in the slightest from person to person.
